Managing Positions

Last updated: Jul 24, 2026

Once you've opened a position, you can monitor its performance and manage it directly from the trading interface. This guide explains the actions available while your position is open.

Monitoring Your Position

The Positions tab in the portfolio table provides a real-time overview of your open positions.

Here you can monitor information such as:

  • Position size
  • Entry price
  • Mark price
  • Unrealized PnL
  • Margin ratio
  • Liquidation price
  • Funding

Review these values regularly to understand how your position is performing as market prices change.

You can also use the available actions to manage your position, including adjusting leverage, adding Take Profit or Stop Loss orders, reversing your position, or closing it.

Use the Positions tab to monitor open position metrics and manage actions such as adjusting leverage, adding TP/SL, reversing, or closing.

For more information, see Leverage & Margin, Funding, and Liquidations.

Managing Position Margin

Your available collateral supports your open positions.

If your margin ratio is approaching your liquidation threshold, you may wish to adjust your position by:

  • Depositing additional collateral into your trading account.
  • Reducing your position size.

For instructions on adding or removing collateral, see Depositing Collateral and Withdrawing Collateral.

Adjusting Leverage

You can adjust the leverage of an open position at any time.

Changing leverage updates the amount of position margin allocated to your trade.

  • Increasing leverage reduces the position margin and increases your available balance.
  • Decreasing leverage increases the position margin and reduces your available balance.

If there is insufficient available collateral to support a lower leverage, the change cannot be completed until additional collateral has been deposited or your position has been reduced.

To adjust leverage:

  1. Click the current leverage in either the Trade panel or your open position.
Click the current leverage in the Trade panel or on your open position in the Positions tab to open the Leverage window.
  1. The Leverage window will open.
  2. Move the leverage slider or enter your desired leverage.
  3. Click Confirm.
Set your desired leverage with the slider or input field, then click Confirm to update your position margin allocation.

Once confirmed, your position will be updated with the new leverage and margin allocation.

Adding Take Profit and Stop Loss

If you did not configure a Take Profit or Stop Loss when opening your position, you can add them at any time.

To add a Take Profit or Stop Loss:

  1. Locate the position you want to add TP/SL in the Positions tab.
  2. Click + Add in the TP/SL column.
In the Positions tab, click + Add in the TP/SL column for the position you want to manage.
  1. Choose whether to apply the TP/SL to the Entire Position or a Partial Position.
  2. Configure your Take Profit and/or Stop Loss.
  3. Review the order details.
  4. Submit your changes.
Choose Entire Position or Partial Position, set your Take Profit and Stop Loss triggers, review the details, then click Save.

You can update or remove your Take Profit and Stop Loss orders at any time while your position remains open.

Increasing or Reducing a Position

You can change the size of an existing position without closing it.

To increase your position:

  • Submit another order in the same direction as your existing position.

To reduce your position:

  • Submit another order in the opposite direction.

Once the order has been executed, the Positions tab will automatically update to reflect your new position size, average entry price, and margin requirements.

Reversing a Position

You can reverse an open position without manually closing it first.

To reverse a position:

  1. Locate the position you want to reverse in the Positions tab.
  2. Click the Reverse button in the Actions column or the Reverse button on the chart.
Click Reverse in the Positions Actions column or use the Reverse control on the chart to flip your position direction.
  1. Review the order details.
  2. Confirm the reversal.
Review the current and new position details in the Reverse Position window, then click Submit Reverse to confirm.

The exchange automatically closes your existing position and opens a new position of the same size in the opposite direction.

Closing a Position

You can close part or all of an open position at any time.

To close a position:

  1. Locate the position you want to close in the Positions tab.
  2. Click Close in the Actions column or click the X on the chart.
Click Close in the Positions Actions column or the X on the chart to start closing your position.
  1. By default, 100% of your position will be closed with a market order, but you can adjust the amount or order type (market or limit) before confirming.
  2. Review the order details.
  3. Click Submit Close.
Adjust the close amount or order type if needed, review the estimated PnL and fees, then click Submit Close.

Once the order has been executed, your position will be updated or removed from the Positions panel.
